Debbi E. Hammels Mountain View, CA Debbi E. Hammels, died on June 29th in her townhouse in Mountain View, CA. Born in York on October 25, 1972, she was the daughter of Miriam and Dale Hammels. She graduated from York Suburban High School in 1991. In addition to being a member of The National Honor Society, she was elected to the Academic All Stars and Who's Who of American High School Students. While attending Gettysburg College, where she earned a B.S. degree in Chemistry with a concentration in Mathematics and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1995, she was awarded summer chemistry fellowships to Penn State, Bucknell, and Duke. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was named to Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges. She received a M.S. degree in Chemistry from Stanford University in 1996. Afterwards, she pursued a career as a medical copywriter that employed and challenged her science background, creative ability, and writing experience. After much thought and soul searching when she turned 30, she decided to follow her heart and begin a career in the field of psychology because it would allow her to use her skills of listening, empathy, and understanding to help others overcome their challenges and gain self-acceptance. In 2006 she received a M.A. in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Silicon Valley, California. She pursued a career as an independent psychotherapist contractor counseling adults, couples, families, adolescents, and children. In addition to her academic career her father and she won the 9 hole Parent-Child golf tournament at the Outdoor Country Club for five consecutive years from 1983-1987. She was an avid cyclist and loved to make health foods. Besides her parents, Miriam and Dale Hammels, she is survived by a sister, Kathi R. Hammels. A private family memorial service is planned.
