Dean B. Glatfelter

December 22, 1929 — August 15, 2017

Dean B. Glatfelter, 87, of Glen Rock, died Tuesday August 15, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy. He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Stump) Glatfelter who died on June 2, 2017. The couple celebrated a 68th wedding anniversary on April 16th. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Zion (Shaffer’s) United Lutheran Church, 4535 Shaffer Road, Seven Valleys, with Rev. John W. “Jack” Dyson, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Zion Shaffer’s Church Cemetery. Viewings will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the church. Mr. Glatfelter was born in Codorus Township on December 22, 1929 and was a son of the late Paul A. and Elsie G. (Wagner) Glatfelter. He was a 1948 graduate of Codorus Township High School and retired from Bon Ton Foods, York in 1990, after 45 years of employment as a Potato Buyer and Plant Manager. Dean was a lifelong member of Zion Shaffer’s United Lutheran Church, where he served as a Deacon, Treasurer, Superintendent of Sunday School and Bible School, taught Sunday School for many years and had served on the church council. He also was a member and served as a Director of the Casper Glatfelter Association of America and co-owned the Merri-Jo Hunting Cabin in Clinton County. He and his late wife loved traveling and had visited all 50 states, the Panama Canal, Switzerland, and Germany. He enjoyed gardening and loved sharing his harvest with his family and friends. He was also known as the “Mayor of the village of Neiman” in Codorus Township area. He is survived by a daughter, Diane Bortner and her friend Tom Bailey; a son, Gary Glatfelter and his wife Cindy; three grandchildren, Mark Bortner, Dan Glatfelter and his girlfriend Kristen Smith, and Sarah Glatfelter and her boyfriend Mike Jones, all of Glen Rock and a sister Mildred E. Miller of Mechanicsburg. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Glatfelter; a son, Mark Glatfelter, and a brother Paul A.
