On Friday, July 15, 2022, Rev. Dr. David A. Stewart, 65, of York passed away with his beloved wife of 42 years, Ruth (Malchow) Stewart, by his side. Dave was born on October 14, 1956 in Chicago, IL to the late Finley J. and Alma (Bowler) Stewart. He graduated Naperville Central High School, Naperville, IL before receiving a Pre-Med Degree from the University of IL in Champaign. He then received his Medical Doctorate from Rush University in Chicago. After doing his medical residency in Lansing, MI, he practiced medicine in Champaign, IL and Grand Rapids, MI. In 1999, Dave decided to move back to Chicago, and attend Chicago Theological Seminary, where he received his Master's of Ministry, then continued on to receive his Doctorate of Ministry. He was also active in several high school and community theatre productions, including playing the lead in "The King and I" two separate times. In addition to that, Dave was a member of the Gettysburg Foundation and a volunteer at Gettysburg National Military Park, often donning the uniform of a Union medical officer for special ocassions. When he had spare time, he enjoyed hiking in National Parks, reading (especially Civil War history) and collecting DC Comic Books. In 2019, Dave was called upon to minister at New Hope "Fissel's" United Church of Christ in Glen Rock, PA, where he shared his passion for ministry and singing until his recent passing. He is survived and loved by his wife, Ruth; one son, Andrew R. Stewart; one daughter, Jessica David Stewart; one sister, Carole Beins and husband, Larry; and several nieces and nephews.
