Cleathon A. Myers

August 7, 1932 — December 15, 2020

Cleathon A. Myers, Jr. the youngest child of Cleathon A. and Edith N. (Lentz) Myers, died on December 15, 2020 at the age of 88. He was the husband of Nancy L. (Krout) Myers and they celebrated 66 years of marriage in July of this year. Cleat was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Adam Romanus Myers, Irvin Lewis Myers and sister Mildred E. Dehoff. In addition to his wife Nancy, Cleat is survived by his son, Steve and his wife Lois (Smith) Myers and his daughter, Kim and her husband George M. Weigle, III. Cleat graduated from West York High School and began working at Pfaltzgraff Pottery, became a whiskey barrel inspector at Foust Distillery and then joined Aircraft-Marine Products (AMP, Inc). He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and became a Supply Sergeant for the 10th OC Company during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to AMP. He thoroughly enjoyed the people he interacted with in his roles including Quality Control Auditor, Inspection Supervisor and Plant Manager. He traveled to Canada, Scotland, Netherlands, Spain, Italy and France interacting with International AMP Divisions. He served as Membership Chairman and Historian for the Harrisburg Section of the American Society for Quality Control (ASQC) and took advantage of many of their educational programs. Cleat retired from AMP after more than 40 years of service. Cleat and Nancy enjoyed traveling the US and Canada to watch their children compete with the Hanover Lancers Senior Drum and Bugle Corp. He was an avid canoeist and was a co-founder of the Conewago Canoe Club. His most memorable trip was maneuvering his wife and daughter in a canoe through the Chaffee’s Locks on the Rideau Canal in Canada. Cleat and Nancy purchased a summer home near Rehoboth Beach, DE. and enjoyed may hours fishing and crabbing with family and friends in Rehoboth Bay. They traveled extensively with family and friends. Cleat became an avid golfer, scoring a hole-in-one on the par 3, third hole at South Hills Golf Club. In 2011, Cleat began research the Myers Family History, in hopes of identifying his paternal grandfather. During his journey not only did he find his grandfather but he also found an additional branch of the Myers family. He was always grateful that they welcomed him into their family with open arms. Cleat and his children then wrote and published, “In Search of…The Discovery of Grandpa Myers”, a book describing his research, the people he met along the way and the Myers family ancestry. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock is assisting with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, 27 Manchester Street, Glen Rock, PA 17327. Condolences may be shared at geiple.com
