On Monday, June 6, 2022, Charles Emory Smith, Jr., 74, of York passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He was the loving husband to Loretta (Sweitzer) Smith for 52 years. Charles was born on August 15, 1947 in York to the late Laura A. (Krout) and Charles E. Smith, Sr. He graduated from Dallastown Area High School in 1965, then graduated from Williamsport Area Community College in 1968. He was a part-time farmer that loved his red Farmall Tractors. Full time, Charles was initially employed by Snyder Auto Company, who was then purchased by Pennsylvania Truck Center. He worked there for 49 years, beginning June 30, 1966 until he retired on June 1, 2015. He was a lifetime member of Spry Church and attended Codorus Church of the Brethren. Charles was known for his red 1967 Oldsmobile 442, which he had since he was 19 years old. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting locally and at their cabin in Tioga County. He is survived by his love, Loretta; three children, Dr. Matthew Charles Smith and his wife Kerry Myers Smith, Dr. Brent Adam Smith and his wife Dr. Danielle Natale-Smith, and Dr. Stacie Suzanne (Smith) Gill and her husband Thomas Gill; six grandchildren, Kaylee Gill, Austin Smith, Noah Gill, Alyssa Smith, Lincoln Smith and Scarlet Smith. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Joyce Gloria Smith Gross. Public viewing will be held on Saturday, June 11 from 9:00 AM until a funeral service begins at 11:00 AM at Codorus Church of the Brethren, 1129 Dunkard Valley Road, Dallastown, PA 17313. Pastor Bob Krouse will officiate. Interment is private at the convenience of the family.
