Carl "Red" Arnold, 94 years old, died peacefully at Normandie Ridge on January 3rd, 2024. He and his loving wife, Ellenor L. (Olp) Arnold celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary on May 17th, 2023.
He was the eldest son of the late Carl O. and Malinda (Dietz) Arnold, and the eldest grandson of William and Ida Arnold, and Morris and Mary J. Dietz. He was a long-time Jacobus and Springfield Township resident.
From an early age and throughout his long life, Red was devoted to God, family and community - and lived his life in service to others. After attending Salem U.C.C. in Jacobus since its inception, in 2002 he and Ellenor joined Mt. Zion U.C.C. in York to work with Mission Teams, including those serving Native American reservations in Nebraska and South Dakota. Red was deeply involved in numerous activities and leadership roles at both churches - including Sunday School teacher, Consistory and choir member, and lay worship. He led and participated in Bible Study groups for many years.
Beginning in the late 40's, he was involved with the Jacobus baseball program (both as a player and coach), and helped lead the building of the Jacobus baseball diamond, playground and tennis courts. He was a Jacobus, York County fire policeman for over 60 years. He served 22 years on the Dallastown Area School Board, including several as President. He also served in various Jacobus Borough Council capacities. Other volunteer work included Contact-York Services Hotline, Habitat for Humanity and many church missions. He was an active participant in multiple events at the York Area Agency on Aging Senior Games for over a dozen years. Ellie and Red's travel trips and camping led them to visit much of the United States, including Hawaii, Alaska and every state except Oklahoma. They also traveled to several countries in Europe.
Red was a 1947 graduate of William Penn Senior High School in York. After completing his machinist certification at William H. Ottemiller, he worked at Jacobus Plastics as a tool and die maker and then Tool Room Manager/Designer for 41 years. He retired from Plasticert in southern York County in 1997.
In addition to his wife, Ellenor, he leaves son, Douglas; son, Dean and wife, Barbie; son, David; and daughter, Diane. Also, his grandchildren, Ashley Wisner, Andrew Arnold and wife, Wendy; Bryan Arnold; and Katelyn Orloski and husband, Kevin.
