On Monday, December 7, 2020, Betty J. (Smith) Matthews, 95, of Seven Valleys, passed away while residing at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Sprenkle Drive. She was the loving wife of the late Charles D. Matthews. Public viewing will be held from 9am until a funeral service begins at 11am on Monday, December 14 at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Pastor Greg Wahlberg will officiate. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masks must be worn at all times and social distancing is required. There is a 10-person limit inside the funeral home, so please keep visits brief to allow others that may be waiting to offer their sympathies. Betty was born on October 11, 1925 in Seven Valleys, to the late William and Effie M. (Kopp) Smith. Betty worked for AMP, Inc. For 25 years until she retired. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing BINGO, traveling on bus trips and cruises, and spending time at their beach house in Ocean City, MD. She was a former member of the Pythian Sisters in Seven Valleys; a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran in Seven Valleys, and a lifetime member of the Seven Valleys Fire Hall Ladies Auxiliary. Betty is survived by her children, Beverly Kunkle and husband Fred, William Matthews and wife Joann, Connie Patterson and husband John, Michael Matthews and wife Lori, Debra Roth and husband Richard, Susan Diehl and husband Scott, and Steven Matthews; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Runkle. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles; her parents; and four brothers, Curvin, William, Richard and Lamar Smith. The family would like to thank all of those who have offered their support, kind thoughts and prayers during this time.
